5 - 7 Years

Listen as your child astonishes you with her newfound ability to create musical compositions.Kindermusik for the Young Child provides a pressure-free, developmentally appropriate transition to musically succeed before taking on more formal instruction. Kindermusik provides the opportunity to explore voice development, rhythm, notation, musical symbols and authentic pre-keyboard, string and woodwind instruments.

Young Child helps every child develop a confident, joyful voice for singing and speaking as well as essential building blocks for a future of learning. Designed for children ages 41/2 through 7 years, classes meet once a week for 60 minutes. Students explore many facets of the musical experience-speaking, singing, moving, dancing, listening, creating and playing instruments, as well as learning about reading and writing music. As the capstone to the child's Kindermusik journey, Young Child broadens and deepens the child's introduction to the fulfillment and excitement of musicianship.

Four Consecutive Semesters

Young Child students explore many facets of music — speaking, singing, moving, listening, creating, playing instruments and learning about reading and writing music. Creative movement or dances are interspersed with quiet activities like drawing or focused listening. The curriculum introduces the thrill of the glockenspiel, a pre-keyboard instrument, and the wonder of string and woodwind instruments like the dulcimer and recorder. The capstone of Kindermusik Young Child is the perfect pressure-free preparation for private instrumental instruction.

Building on the concepts introduced in Semester 1, Semester 2 in Kindermusik for the Young Child (ages 5 to 7 years) will excite the young mind as it focuses on concepts such as piano/forte, crescendo/decrescendo and legato/staccato. We will explore string and woodwind instruments, notation, and even a bit of Beethoven.

Children love applying their new knowledge of aural skills, and reading and writing music notation as they further develop their glockenspiel skills. Lesson highlights from Semester 2 include "Peter and the Wolf" "The Orchestra" and "Sing and Celebrate!"
Children are delighted to learn more about stringed instruments with the introduction to their very own dulcimers in Semester 3. Other musical concepts taught include call and response, improvisation, meter, notation and a touch of Tchaikovsky. Themes in Semester 3 include "Music of Appalachia," "Music of the Sea" and "Native American Music."

How do the At Home Materials add value to classes?

Kindermusik is much more than a weekly class and the At Home Materials you receive are just the tools you need to continue that one-of-a-kind experience together as a family. While we plant the seeds of learning through music in the classroom, you will use the At Home Materials in your home to cultivate lifelong learning.

Family involvement in your child’s learning is a fundamental cornerstone of the Kindermusik philosophy because we believe the parent is the child’s most important teacher and the home is the most important place for a child’s learning to take root and grow
